First, we cannot guarantee that you will get something for free at Disney World—it is all up to the Cast Members! But after getting a few freebies ourselves, we couldn’t keep this one to ourselves.

Let’s first talk about how to get free stuff at Disney World:

  1. Be kind, patient, and understanding
  2. Wear your free Disney World celebration buttons!

These were our two tickets to getting a complimentary glass of champagne with our meal, a huge cinnamon roll for breakfast, and a front-row seat on Splash Mountain (we were glad we brought our ponchos)!

Now, let’s talk about some of the secret free stuff at Disney World you might run into based on the guests’ experience, including my own!

This post is all about free stuff at Disney World.

Popular Freebies

  • Free Lightning Lane entry to your favorite ride — When a Cast Member sees you toward the back of a long line with your celebration button, they may give you express access to the Lightning Lane.
  • Best seat escort for select rides — This is a special bonus for rides where the front seat is where all the fun is! We were placed in the front of Splash Mountain, and I’m glad we packed our ponchos!
  • Free dessert at many table-service restaurants — The Cast Member at Cinderella’s Royal Table noticed my button and served a special treat with my dessert.
  • PhotoPass photos with a special birthday message — If you have PhotoPass with your vacation, you’ll get tons of photos, and they sometimes sneak a few with special messages in there, too.
  • Special meet-and-greets and interactions with characters — These are special because you get a different experience than usual. For example, because it was my birthday, Princess Jasmine allowed me to make a wish with the lamp. It looked so real!

Insider Tip

If you’re looking for ways to celebrate your birthday in Disney World, I have you covered! After celebrating my birthday in Disney World, I’ve come up with some amazing Disney World birthday ideas for adults that I think you might like.

  • Birthday phone call from a Disney character — Some Cast Members at the front desk or restaurants will receive random phone calls when it’s your birthday. We got a surprise call from Goofy before our dining reservation at Boma.
  • Personalized birthday card from Disney characters — This can happen where there are multiple Disney characters, like character dining locations. Mickey got his friends to sign my birthday card at Tusker House; all I did was wear my button.
  • Complimentary slice of cake at select dining locations — Where there is cake, you might get a slice. Just ask a Cast Member if there is any extra cake for a birthday celebration.
  • VIP seating for the fireworks shows — Cast Members know the best spots for the fireworks. If you’re there early enough, they might spot you and give you VIP seating for the show.
  • Special birthday pins and badges — These are perfect additions to your bag, ears, or lanyard. If you’re looking for some locations to find pins you might like, here are places to look out for:
    • Disney’s Pin Traders at Disney Springs
    • Frontier Trading Post at Magic Kingdom park
    • Pin Traders – Camera Center at EPCOT
    • Discovery Trading Company at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park
    • Celebrity 5 & 10 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Exclusive Interactions and Experiences

Here is where we get into the special interactions that are rare but still likely to happen. You could get a special dance with your favorite character or special recognition during the Festival of the Fantasy Parade.

These tips might help you supercharge your opportunity to receive these experiences:

  1. When you meet a character, ask them about their dance moves. When I asked Buzz Lightyear about his dance moves, he guided me through an entire salsa dance!
  2. If you want special recognition at a parade, grab a good spot to be seen. That’s how Princess Tiana spotted me in the crowd, and it didn’t hurt that I had custom ears from Etsy!

There are so many special experiences you could have, like:

  • Priority viewing for fireworks
  • Free portrait drawing by a Disney artist
  • Complimentary song dedication during a show
  • Personalized birthday announcement at a show
  • Free face painting
  • Special birthday show at a restaurant
  • Special dance with a character
  • Special recognition during parades
  • Free tour of certain attractions *
  • Behind-the-scenes experience *

* These are rare for guests’ safety and Disney World’s magic.
